Topic:

Assessing the Gains: The Proliferation of Value-Based Land Taxes in BC (includes Annual General Meeting)

Facing a serious housing affordability crisis, provincial and local governments have introduced several measures intended to target speculation and underutilization of real estate and to increase availability of beneficial ownership information. Some experience these measures as necessary and welcome intervention; others as a cash grab and an intrusion on privacy. This presentation will discuss enacted and proposed measures including the Foreign Buyer Tax and Information Collection Regulation, the Land Owner Transparency Act, the Vancouver Vacancy Tax, and the Speculation Tax. The focus will be on provisions most relevant to trust and estate planners and their clients.

There will be a short snapper on "Interest Rates" by Beau Howes, Jarislowksy, Fraser Limited.
